Comprehensive Introduction to OCD
Recognize and Diagnose OCD
You will learn how to recognize and diagnose OCD. You'll know when and how to treat OCD, and when to refer out to a specialist. You will learn to recognize common errors made by non-OCD specialists in the treatment of clients with OCD.

While this training is not intended to prepare you to implement any particular treatment approach, it will provide an overview of common evidence-based treatment approaches, which will help to inform your decision-making when opting to refer out.

Join OCD Specialist and Therapist Shannon Grimsley, MS, NCC, LPC, LCPC, LPCC for this accessible introduction to obsessive compulsive disorder for mental health professionals. Shannon has been a licensed professional therapist since 2011 and has been specializing in the treatment of OCD since 2020.
Learning Objectives
After this three-hour program, learners will be able to:
- Identify the DSM 5-TR criteria for obsessive compulsive disorder
- Explain, distinguish between, and describe obsessions and compulsions
- Recognize common obsessions and compulsions
- Recognize and classify the different OCD subtypes
- Understand, accurately label, and differentiate between reasonable doubt and obsessional doubt
- Name and explain the basics two different common evidence-based approaches for OCD
- Recognize, understand, and know how to respond to common myths and other misinformation about OCD

ABOUT Shannon
Shannon is a therapist who specializes in the treatment of anxiety, obsessive compulsive disorder, and life transitions. She uses a trauma informed and strengths based approach to support her clients. She has training and experience in using a variety of different modalities including inference based CBT (I-CBT) and Exposure and Response Prevention (ERP) for treating OCD, as well as cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT), acceptance and commitment therapy (ACT), mindfulness techniques, and person centered therapy.
